Tómó Margaréta

Margaréta Tómó

Margaréta Tómó was born in 1983 in Subotica/Szabadka where she lives today. She finished elementary school and Svetozar Marković High School there. As a student, she was most interested in the world of foreign languages. In addition to Hungarian, she speaks Serbian, Croatian, English, and French.

During her high school years, she already knew that she wanted to be a journalist. This was achieved thanks to the fact that she twice applied unsuccessfully to the English Communications department of several Hungarian universities.

In 2000, she started working on the youth program of Radio Subotica where she became presenter and later editor. In 2003, she completed the course of the Pro Media journalism school in Novi Sad. At the same time, she started working for Magyar Szó daily and stayed there as a journalist for 14 years. She was the editor of the Szabadka Department.

In addition to work, she earned a degree in economics.

In 2013, after the birth of her first child, she came up with the idea of a website to offer advice for expectant mothers with their pregnancy and later with their newborn. At first, she wrote her own birthing story, but the multitude of feedback confirmed her determination that an informative website on this topic was needed. The Baba-Mama site was completed by May 2014.

In 2016, she resigned from Magyar Szó and joined the staff of Vojvodina Radio and Television where she started to edit the news background show Napjaink (Our Days).

Since 2017, she became an external collaborator at Family Circle (Családi Kör) weekly published by the Press Freedom Foundation. When the Baba-Mama specialized site was relaunched in March 2020, the Foundation appointed her editor-in-chief. In 2022, she became the Managing Editor of Family Circle as well.

As the mother of two boys, she lives in a civil partnership.
