Mission of the Foundation (from Article 4 of the Foundation’s Charter):
“To promote the protection of human rights, political and minority rights, and democratic values; to promote and advance public transparency, the freedom of the press and of public discourse in the Hungarian language and other languages. The Foundation serves causes of general public value and interest.”
Why was it necessary to establish a new media institution to promote the above goals?
- Because free speech is a fundamental human right
- Because national minorities also deserve the freedom of diversity and pluralistic social existence
- Because the community-shaping strength of minority media does not lie in uniform thinking but in joint thinking
- Because no one, no matter how total their political and financial power, has the right to silence those who think differently
- Because open and respectable public discourse and debate are not only necessary but also possible
- Because all constructive ideas must have a place under the sun
- Because we cultivate polished and respectful criticism and accept it from others
- Because we must stop populist demagoguery
- Because we must stop the politics of fearmongering
- Because we reject hatred and character assassinations
- Because Vojvodina Hungarians, dispersed from their homeland due to wars, intimidation, and economic deprivation, and communicating with their families via electronic devices only, also have the right to know what is happening at home and the right of participation
- Because we consider it necessary and feasible to create a new media family based on professional excellence and free of political and financial control
