The initial mission of Radio Free Hungarian Word was to offer a 20-minute weekly radio summary of the previous seven days of our news portal’s content. In a very short period of time, however, the second member of our media family, run by Editor Imre Tóth, started to augment and enrich its features.
The first newscast of Radio Free Hungarian Word was Internet-cast on May 21, 2017, on our news portal’s site. The weekly newscast has appeared regularly since then, offering more and more voices and content that cannot be heard anywhere else. The news has been followed by a Commentary segment, in which János Németh, the legendary host of recently silenced (due to arbitrary state intervention) Radio Szabadka/Subotica talks about the highlights and anomalies, colors and shadows of our day and space, and does that freely, in accord with the spirit of our media family.
Two months into its existence, Radio Free Hungarian Word launched a new service in order to improve its availability and to reach even wider audiences. Its podcasts, although pioneering on these meridians, quickly became rather popular among listeners who need the flexibility of choice about when, where, and how to access their favorite shows – no matter the device or the availability of a reliable Internet connection.
The next step in enriching the radio program was the segment called Artists’ Lounge. Two leading actresses of Szabadka’s National Theater, Zsuzsanna Kalmár and Natália Vicei catechize politicians, artists, journalists, and other public figures about their work, successes and failures, and about their views of society and the world.
Radio Free Hungarian Word will continue to further develop and enhance its offerings in the very near future, targeting ever new segments of the audience.
